: Ministry of Corporate Affairs has expanded the eligibility criteria of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), allowing final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for structured, paid internships.
This move is expected to provide early industry exposure to students even before they complete their formal education, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes skill development and smoother transition from education to employment.
Under the revised guidelines, students aged 18 to 25 can apply through the official PMIS portal. Applicants must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institutions to ensure that internships do not interfere with academic requirements.
The scheme offers a minimum monthly stipend of ₹9,000 and includes participation from over 300 companies across various sectors during its pilot phase. Companies continue to post internship opportunities under the ongoing third round.
Experts believe that early exposure to professional environments will help students develop essential workplace skills such as problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and adaptability—key to succeeding in today’s dynamic economy.
