In a phenomenal achievement that has officially sent shockwaves through the global art community, Lucknow-based artist Praveen Bhushan Srivastava has rewritten history by single-handedly creating the world’s tallest painting, titled “The Space Ladder”. This monumental masterpiece stands at a staggering height of 334 meters (comparable to the height of the Eiffel Tower) and has a precise width of 41 centimeters, marking a historic milestone for Indian art on the global stage.
In an exclusive interview, the visionary artist revealed the grueling yet magical journey behind this creation. The historic project commenced on June 7, 2007, and reached its absolute completion on January 22, 2024—spanning nearly 17 years of unyielding dedication and artistic discipline.
The most spicy and mind-boggling fact about this artwork is that it was painted entirely on a massive black canvas using a complex mix of oil, enamel, water enamel, and acrylic colors. Strikingly, throughout the 17-year creation process, Srivastava never touched a pencil for sketching nor did he use an eraser. Every single stroke of his brush was direct, final, and flawless, making it an irreplaceable wonder of pure human skill.
“The Space Ladder” is not just a painting; it is an entire visual encyclopedia of the universe and human existence. The detailed artwork encapsulates extraterrestrial wonders like exoplanets (planets outside our solar system), Oort clouds, the Orion constellation, and binary systems.
