Net Profit Soars 213.6% to ₹5,253 Crore in Q1 FY27
Asset Quality Strengthens as NPAs Decline

State-owned banking giant Punjab National Bank (PNB) has delivered one of its strongest quarterly performances, reporting a remarkable 213.6% year-on-year jump in net profit for the first quarter of FY 2026-27. The bank posted a net profit of ₹5,253 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with ₹1,675 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.
Announcing the results, PNB Managing Director and CEO Ashok Chandra said the bank continues to strengthen profitability while maintaining robust asset quality and sustainable business growth. He revealed that PNB is preparing for an aggressive expansion across South and West India, with a new Zonal Office in Bengaluru, a Circle Office in Mangaluru, and nearly 250 additional branches planned to expand its customer footprint.
The bank’s global business grew 10.2% year-on-year to ₹29.97 lakh crore, supported by an 8.5% rise in global deposits and 12.7% growth in global advances. PNB’s Capital Adequacy Ratio improved to 18.13%, while the book value per share increased to ₹108.58, reflecting a stronger capital position.
PNB also recorded a significant improvement in asset quality. Gross NPA declined from 3.78% to 2.78%, while Net NPA improved from 0.38% to 0.28%, highlighting stronger credit discipline. The bank’s Credit-Deposit Ratio also improved to 73.8%, compared to 71.1% a year ago.
Growth remained broad-based across key lending segments. Core retail advances rose 17.5%, housing loans expanded 11.9%, vehicle loans surged 34.4%, and MSME advances increased 19.8% year-on-year. Operating profit also climbed 6.2% to ₹7,519 crore, reinforcing the bank’s operational strength.
With rising profitability, stronger balance-sheet indicators, and an ambitious nationwide expansion strategy, Punjab National Bank has positioned itself among the strongest-performing public sector banks in the country, setting the stage for sustained growth in the coming quarters.
