On the second day of his Goraksharth Dharmayudh Yatra, Jyotishpeeth Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati delivered a strongly worded address focusing on cow protection while also making political remarks concerning the Uttar Pradesh government and the Ram Temple issue.
Addressing a public gathering in Ballipur village under the Tarabganj Assembly constituency, the Shankaracharya said the purpose of his nationwide campaign is to create public awareness about cow protection. He appealed to people to support the cause, declaring, “Those associated with cow slaughter should receive neither votes nor public support.”
He alleged that governments continue to treat cows merely as livestock by establishing cowsheds, whereas Hindu tradition reveres the cow as “Gau Mata.” He advocated replacing conventional cowsheds with dedicated “Godhams” to reflect their cultural and spiritual significance.
Referring to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the seer alleged that there was a gap between official commitments and ground-level implementation regarding cow protection. He described the cow as a pillar of India’s cultural heritage, sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and the rural economy.
The Shankaracharya also reiterated his earlier allegations regarding the alleged misuse of funds connected with the Ram Temple issue. He claimed attempts were being made to divert public attention from the matter and referred to remarks involving political leaders and organisations. These allegations remain contested, and no fresh response from the concerned parties was available at the time of reporting.
Reacting to recent remarks by Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, the religious leader made a satirical comment, adding another political dimension to the event.
The programme was conducted by Assembly in-charge Suraj Singh and witnessed the participation of a large number of devotees, saints, and local residents. The yatra is expected to continue its outreach on the issue of cow protection across different regions.
