NHAI Accelerates India’s Digital Highway Revolution
No More Toll Plaza Visits for Local Passes
22-Language Smart Assistance to Transform Highway Travel

: India’s highway travel is entering a new digital era as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced two major citizen-centric services on the RajmargYatra mobile application—the Digital Local Pass and the intelligent MargMitra Help Centre. The initiatives are designed to simplify toll services, eliminate paperwork, and deliver faster, smarter, and more transparent assistance to highway users.
The newly launched Digital Local Pass allows eligible residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of designated toll plazas to purchase their monthly toll pass directly through the RajmargYatra app without visiting the toll plaza. The service has been rolled out initially at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II and will be expanded across the country in the coming months.
The platform integrates with DigiLocker, VAHAN, GIS-based verification, and linked FASTag records to automatically verify user eligibility, eliminating physical documentation while ensuring accuracy, transparency, and convenience.
To further strengthen digital support, NHAI has also launched MargMitra, an intelligent single-window digital assistance platform embedded within the RajmargYatra app. Users can type or speak their queries in 22 Indian languages, access information, register complaints, and receive guided support through an interactive interface.
MargMitra offers instant assistance for FASTag recharge, KYC updates, refund status, annual and local passes, blacklist verification, pending e-notices, and road safety concerns such as stranded vehicles or encroachments. Complaints are automatically routed to the concerned department, while users can monitor resolution progress in real time and even file appeals if dissatisfied.
NHAI stated that the RajmargYatra platform has already facilitated the sale of over 8 million Annual Passes with real-time activation. The addition of these new digital services further reinforces the authority’s commitment to creating a technology-driven, transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly national highway ecosystem.
