BSP Chief Warns Political Confrontation Is Overshadowing Urgent Education Reforms

: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati has criticized both the Central Government and opposition parties over the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged examination paper leaks, including the NEET-UG issue. She argued that the pressing need for structural reforms in India’s education system risks being overshadowed by escalating political confrontation.
“Politics Should Not Eclipse Reform”
Referring to the continuing student protest at Jantar Mantar, Mayawati said the peaceful demonstration has received considerable public sympathy. However, she claimed that the demand for the Union Education Minister’s resignation has intensified political confrontation between the ruling establishment and opposition parties, shifting attention away from long-term educational reforms.
Concerns Over Rising Political Tensions
The BSP leader warned that the dispute is no longer confined to Parliament and could influence the political climate across several states. She urged her party workers to remain disciplined, vigilant and avoid provocation amid the charged atmosphere.
Police Action Under Scrutiny
Mayawati also expressed concern over police action against protesters, stating that such developments have further heightened tensions. She suggested that dialogue and institutional accountability would be more effective than confrontation in resolving the crisis.
Parliamentary Deadlock Raises Questions
According to the BSP chief, repeated disruptions have prevented the Monsoon Session of Parliament from functioning smoothly, delaying discussions on several important national and public-interest issues while weakening democratic accountability.
Call for Preventive Reforms
Mayawati argued that merely taking strict action after examination paper leaks is not sufficient. She called for stronger preventive mechanisms, greater transparency, institutional accountability and robust safeguards to ensure the integrity of recruitment and entrance examinations.
Concluding her remarks, the BSP chief appealed to party workers to remain committed to the party’s mission, maintain patience in the current political environment and continue their organizational work with discipline and dedication.
