: The 13th Convocation Ceremony of Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) marked a defining moment in India’s journey toward inclusive and accessible higher education. Held at the Atal Auditorium, the grand ceremony celebrated academic excellence, resilience, and social inclusion as 1,921 students received their degrees while 130 outstanding achievers were honoured with 156 medals amid thunderous applause.

Divyang Students Script an Inspiring Success Story

The highlight of the ceremony was the remarkable performance of students with disabilities. Twenty-seven Divyang students secured 45 medals, including 22 Gold, one Silver, and four Bronze medals, demonstrating that determination, opportunity, and quality education can overcome every barrier. Their achievement stood as a powerful testament to the university’s commitment to inclusive learning.

Call for Special Status

Chief Guest and Rajya Sabha MP C. Sadanandan Master praised the university for setting national benchmarks in rehabilitation, accessibility, and inclusive education. He urged the Union Government to grant Special Status to the institution, stating that such recognition would significantly strengthen research, assistive technology, innovation, rehabilitation services, and India’s global leadership in disability studies and inclusive education.

Centre of Excellence Receives National Recognition

Reading the message of Governor Anandiben Patel, Special Officer Sudhir M. Bobde expressed pride over the university being declared a Centre of Excellence by the Rehabilitation Council of India. He highlighted several pioneering initiatives, including the ‘Sugandh Path’ sensory navigation project, AI-powered Smart Vision Glasses for visually impaired students, scribe-free laptop-based examinations, and the university’s Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre, which has transformed thousands of lives.

A Model for Inclusive Development

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Narendra Kashyap said Uttar Pradesh is the only Indian state operating two dedicated universities for persons with disabilities. He noted that students from DSMNRU have secured placements exceeding ₹13 lakh per annum while also bringing laurels to the nation in international sports competitions.

Education Beyond Degrees

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Singh reaffirmed that the university’s mission extends beyond awarding degrees. It aims to nurture socially responsible, skilled, and compassionate citizens. The convocation also featured Digital Locker-based degree distribution and live sign language interpretation, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to accessibility and technological empowerment.
