India Post has launched its nationwide ‘Dhai Akhar’ Letter Writing Competition, aiming to revive the timeless tradition of handwritten letters while encouraging environmental awareness among citizens. The 2026 theme, “A Letter to Mother Earth: My Pledge to Protect Nature,” invites participants to express their commitment toward environmental conservation through heartfelt writing.

A National Platform for Creative Minds

Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav said the competition is open to participants of all age groups, divided into two categories—up to 18 years and above 18 years. The initiative seeks to nurture creativity, originality, emotional expression, and reconnect young people with India’s rich postal and philatelic heritage.

Prize Pool Exceeds ₹40 Lakh

The competition carries an impressive ₹40.20 lakh prize pool. At the national level, winners will receive ₹50,000, ₹25,000, and ₹10,000, while state-level winners will be awarded ₹25,000, ₹10,000, and ₹5,000, respectively.

Handwritten Letters Only

Participants must submit handwritten letters using India Post Inland Letter Cards or envelopes. Letters may be written in Hindi, English, or any regional language. The word limit is 500 words for participants up to 18 years and 1,000 words for those above 18 years. Entries must reach the respective Chief Postmaster General between August 1 and October 31, 2026.

Promoting Environmental Responsibility

Beyond a writing competition, the campaign aims to inspire environmental consciousness and strengthen emotional connections through meaningful communication. Schools, colleges, and educational institutions are encouraged to organize participation drives in collaboration with India Post.

Reviving the Soul of Letter Writing

Krishna Kumar Yadav emphasized that handwritten letters preserve emotions, relationships, and memories in a way digital communication cannot. The ‘Dhai Akhar’ initiative serves as a national movement to promote creative writing, emotional expression, and meaningful communication among India’s youth while preserving the country’s rich literary and postal traditions.
