Major General Gaurav Gautam Felicitates DG NCC Blue Boys Hockey Team for Stellar National Performance

The ‘DG NCC Blue Boys’ Hockey Team of NCC Directorate, Uttar Pradesh, brought immense pride to the state by clinching the third position in the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Cup Under-17 National Tournament. Major General Gaurav Gautam (VSM), Additional Director General (ADG), NCC Directorate UP, felicitated the young champions during a ceremonial function at the 67 UP Battalion NCC, Lucknow Cantt.

5 Consecutive Wins & 61 Goals: Unstoppable Dominance

Demonstrating athletic excellence at New Delhi’s Shivaji Stadium, the team registered five consecutive victories, pumping in an astounding 61 goals to secure third place based on goal average. The squad was also honored with the prestigious ‘Fair Play Award’. Notably, four players from this team previously represented India in Oman (Asia Cup) and Japan (Youth Hockey 5s), winning Gold Medals in both international events.

₹90,000 Cash Award & Call for Resilience

Received with a formal ‘Guard of Honour’, ADG Major General Gaurav Gautam commended the cadets for their grit and winning mindset. He announced a cash prize of ₹90,000 for the 16-member squad and coach Shri Ranjit Raj, who underwent a rigorous 4-month training program at Md. Shahid Mini Stadium under the 67 UP Battalion NCC.

Honoring the Sacred Legacy of Captain Manoj Pandey (PVC)

Highlighting the glorious heritage of the 67 UP Battalion, the ADG described it as a “sacred ground” tied to Param Vir Chakra recipient Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey—the only NCC cadet to receive India’s highest military decoration. The ceremony was attended by NCC Group Commander Brigadier Puneet Srivastava (VSM) alongside senior officers and cadets, celebrating the battalion’s enduring contribution to youth empowerment.
