India and Argentina have taken another significant step towards strengthening their strategic and economic partnership, with both countries expanding cooperation across lithium, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and emerging technologies.
The fourth meeting of the India-Argentina Joint Trade Committee (JTC), held in Buenos Aires, was led by India’s Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Argentina’s Secretary for International Economic Relations, Ambassador Fernando Brun. The two sides reviewed progress under the roadmap agreed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Argentina in 2025.
Bilateral trade between the two countries crossed USD 6.5 billion in 2025, recording annual growth of more than 17 per cent. India has emerged as Argentina’s fifth-largest trading partner, underlining the growing strength and potential of the economic relationship
Lithium emerged as a major strategic area of cooperation. India’s KABIL has made significant progress in its mining activities in Catamarca, where Phase II drilling has been completed. Further opportunities are also being explored in Salta and Jujuy.
The discussions brought encouraging news for Indian farmers and exporters. Technical talks are advancing to facilitate market access for Indian onions, dairy products, grapes, potatoes, bananas and pulses in Argentina.
The pharmaceutical sector also received major attention. Argentina committed to work towards improving the regulatory position of Indian pharmaceutical products and reducing market-entry barriers. Both countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation in Ayurveda and Yoga.
New-age sectors such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, digital infrastructure, telecommunications, aviation and space technology were identified as important areas for future cooperation.
The India-Argentina Business Forum, held on August 25, further strengthened commercial engagement. Rajesh Agrawal led the largest-ever Indian business delegation to Argentina, comprising more than 25 business leaders, including representatives from UPL, Kirloskar and Aditya Birla Group.
The growing partnership reflects a shared effort to convert diplomatic engagement into stronger trade, investment, technology cooperation and long-term economic opportunities for both nations.
