In a move aimed at providing relief to consumers amid fluctuations in sugar prices, the Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department, Uttar Pradesh, has arranged the sale of sugar at a concessional rate of ₹52 per kilogram in Lucknow.

The initiative has been introduced following the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with the stated objective of making an essential household commodity available to the public at a reasonable price.

Consumers in Lucknow can purchase sugar from the sales centre located at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Ganna Kisan Sansthan premises, operated through the Sugar Corporation/Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation.

According to the department, the special sale will operate regularly on working days from 10 AM to 5 PM. Consumers have been advised to purchase sugar according to their daily requirements and make use of the facility during the specified hours.

The department has fixed prices according to pack sizes. A 1-kg packet will cost ₹52, while a 2-kg packet will be available for ₹102. The price of a 5-kg packet has been fixed at ₹250, while a 50-kg packet will cost ₹2,500.

Officials said necessary arrangements have been completed at the sales centre to facilitate smooth and transparent purchases. The initiative is intended to ensure that ordinary consumers can access sugar at the specified rate without unnecessary administrative hurdles.

Sugar is a basic household necessity, and changes in its market price can directly affect monthly household budgets. The concessional sale is therefore expected to provide some financial relief, particularly to middle-income and low-income families managing tight household expenses.

The Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department has emphasised that ensuring the availability of essential commodities at reasonable prices is an important public-welfare responsibility. The special sales arrangement has been introduced with this objective.

The Cane Development Department has appealed to residents of Lucknow to make maximum use of the facility and purchase sugar according to their requirements from the designated sales centre during working hours.

The initiative comes at a time when consumers remain sensitive to changes in the prices of essential food commodities. By making sugar available at a fixed concessional rate, the government has sought to provide consumers with a more affordable purchasing option in the state capital.
