Senior Advocate S.C. Gupta formally filed his nomination papers for the post of President of the Oudh Bar Association at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, setting the stage for a reform-focused contest for the association’s top post.

Strong Show of Support

A sizeable gathering of legal professionals accompanied Mr. Gupta during the nomination process. Jimmy Garg and several other prominent advocates were among those who expressed support for his candidature and extended their best wishes.

Reform at the Core

Following the filing of his nomination, S.C. Gupta presented a reform-oriented election agenda focusing on judicial restructuring and the welfare of members of the legal fraternity.

‘One High Court’ Vision

A major proposal in his manifesto is the establishment of a “One High Court” model for Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Gupta referred to observations of the Hon’ble Supreme Court concerning the desirability of having a High Court in the state capital. He proposed that judicial powers be brought under a more unified structure.

According to the proposal, such a system would seek to empower clients and litigants by giving them greater flexibility to institute cases across the relevant branches without facing jurisdictional bottlenecks.

Tax-Free Canteen

Advocates’ welfare also figures prominently in the proposed agenda. Mr. Gupta has pledged to work towards making the High Court canteen completely tax-free, citing subsidised canteen models available in the military services.

The proposal is aimed at providing greater support to advocates, registry employees and visitors who depend on the facility during their daily work at the court.

Focus on Modernisation

Advocates supporting Mr. Gupta have expressed confidence in his reform agenda, maintaining that the proposed measures could contribute to modernising legal infrastructure and strengthening welfare initiatives for members of the Bar in Lucknow.

With judicial restructuring, litigant convenience and welfare facilities forming the centrepiece of his campaign, the nomination has added a reform-oriented dimension to the forthcoming Oudh Bar Association presidential election.
