19 Candidates File Papers on Fifth Day for Lucknow Graduate and Teachers Constituency Poll

: The electoral contest for the Lucknow Division Graduate and Teachers Constituencies of the Legislative Council Election 2026 gathered further momentum on the fifth day of the nomination process, with 19 candidates filing their nomination papers.
The nomination proceedings were conducted as scheduled at Room No. 01, Court of the Commissioner, Lucknow Division. Vijay Vishwas Pant, Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer, stated that four additional nomination forms were also distributed during the day.
Teachers’ Seat Sees Contest
The Teachers Constituency witnessed nominations from both political parties and independent candidates. Those filing their papers included Ashish Kumar Singh, Jitendra Nath Mishra, Devendra Kumar Singh, Sushil Kumar, Umesh Dwivedi, Dhirendra Singh and Jag Jeevan Prasad Shukla.
Among them, Sushil Kumar entered the fray as a candidate of the Samajwadi Party, while Umesh Dwivedi filed his nomination on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The remaining candidates contested as independents.
Graduate Seat Expands the Field
The Graduate Constituency also saw a broad field of candidates. Kanti Singh filed her nomination as a Samajwadi Party candidate, while Avnish Kumar Singh entered the contest representing the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The independent candidates included Harshit Singh, Sushil Dubey, Avnish Patel, Avnish Kumar Pandey, Avnish Singh, Avinash Kumar Singh, Vijay Kumar, Dr. Smita Mishra and Dharmendra Singh. Chandra Bhan Maurya filed his nomination as a candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Four More Collect Forms
Four individuals also obtained nomination papers. From the Teachers Constituency, Ravindra Kumar Tripathi, Vidya Sagar and Dhirendra Singh collected forms, while Abhishek Kumar obtained a form for the Graduate Constituency. All four were listed as independents.
Electoral Picture Gets Sharper
With a substantial number of candidates entering the contest on the fifth day, the electoral landscape across both constituencies is beginning to take a more competitive shape. The presence of candidates backed by major political parties alongside a sizeable number of independents is likely to make the contest increasingly multi-cornered.
The latest round of nominations has added another layer of political activity to the Legislative Council election, with the competing claims of parties and independent candidates now becoming increasingly visible.
