State Bank of India (SBI), Lucknow Circle, has once again demonstrated its commitment towards the armed forces by handing over an insurance claim cheque of ₹1 crore to the family of a martyred soldier.
The cheque was presented by SBI’s AMC Cantt Branch, Lucknow, to Durga Devi Gurung, wife of Late Home Bahadur Gurung, under the bank’s Personal दुर्घटना Insurance cover. The soldier, a native of Nepal, laid down his life in service while serving in the prestigious Gorkha Rifles on August 16, 2025.
The cheque was formally handed over by Regional Manager Avantika Singh Mishra in the presence of Colonel Devesh Jayant Joshi. AGM Deepti Dwivedi, along with other senior bank officials and army representatives, were also present on the occasion, making it a moment of both pride and deep emotion.
A notable highlight of this initiative is the ease of cross-border banking. The cheque issued in Lucknow can be seamlessly deposited and cleared in Nepal through SBI’s international branch network, ensuring that the martyr’s family faces no hurdles in accessing financial support.
This gesture underscores the strength of SBI’s Defense Salary Package (DSP), reflecting not just financial security but also reliability and global accessibility for armed forces personnel and their families. It reinforces the message that the nation stands firmly with those who sacrifice everything for its safety.
