Mayawati, national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), launched a sharp political attack on rival parties ahead of the birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. In a strongly worded statement issued in Lucknow, she accused opposition parties, particularly the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, of remembering Kanshi Ram only for narrow political gains and electoral benefits.

Mayawati said that the humanitarian and self-respect movement initiated by B. R. Ambedkar was carried forward by Kanshi Ram, who organized millions of Dalits and marginalized communities into a powerful political force through the formation of the BSP.

According to her, many political parties today pay symbolic tributes to Kanshi Ram but fail to genuinely follow his mission of social justice and equality. She argued that if the constitutional ideals of equality and welfare had been implemented with sincerity in the past, the country would not still be witnessing deep social, economic and political inequalities affecting large sections of the Bahujan community.

The BSP chief also expressed concern that caste-based discrimination and narrow political thinking continue to influence Indian politics. She alleged that attempts are being made to weaken the constitutional provisions of reservation meant for marginalized communities, thereby strengthening an exploitative system.

Mayawati urged the Bahujan community to remain vigilant and united. She emphasized that people should listen to everyone but must not allow their collective voting power to fall into the hands of what she described as “vote traders.” She described the protection of Bahujan unity and political strength as the true tribute to the lifelong struggles of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram.

She also appealed to party workers across the country to ensure the success of BSP programs being organized on March 15 to mark Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary. According to her, these events should serve as a reminder of the movement’s goals and inspire continued efforts toward social justice and empowerment.
