Lucknow: Serious concerns over medicine shortages, poor monitoring, and weak healthcare management in AYUSH hospitals surfaced during a high-level review meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh AYUSH Minister Dr Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’. The minister issued stern warnings to officials and directed immediate corrective measures across nine divisions of the state.
During the virtual review meeting held at Yojana Bhawan, officials from Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Aligarh, Agra, Meerut, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Devipatan, and Bareilly divisions were questioned over the functioning of Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homeopathic hospitals. The minister expressed dissatisfaction over reports of medicine shortages and irregular attendance of doctors at healthcare centres.
Dr Mishra made it clear that patients visiting government AYUSH hospitals should not be forced to buy medicines from outside. He warned that negligence in ensuring adequate medicine supply would invite strict action against responsible officials. According to sources, complaints regarding unavailable medicines and weak patient care have been increasing in several districts.
The minister also raised concerns over the poor condition of basic facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, and cleanliness in hospitals. He stressed that elderly patients, women, and children should not suffer due to administrative failures and poor maintenance.
Officials were instructed to increase OPD attendance, organise regular health camps, and improve public outreach for AYUSH services. Dr Mishra also asked authorities to promote the “Sowa-Rigpa” healing system in Buddhist tourism regions such as Shravasti, where international visitors frequently arrive.
The review meeting highlighted deeper systemic issues within the AYUSH healthcare infrastructure, including lack of accountability, inadequate stock management, and insufficient monitoring of field-level staff. The minister reiterated that any negligence in public healthcare delivery would not be tolerated.
Senior officials including Principal Secretary AYUSH Ranjan Kumar, Director General Chaitra V., Director Ayurveda Dr Narayan Das, Director Homeopathy Dr P.K. Singh, and Unani Director Prof Jamal Akhtar attended the meeting.
