In a significant push to curb drug abuse across the country, the Government of India has launched the upgraded NMBA 2.0 App, marking a major leap in digital governance and coordinated action. The launch took place in Chandigarh during a high-level Chintan Shivir, led by Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar and Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.

Originally launched in 2020 across 272 high-risk districts, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan has now expanded nationwide since August 2023. The campaign has already reached over 260 million people through more than 830,000 activities, engaging youth, women, and community volunteers at an unprecedented scale.

The NMBA 2.0 App introduces powerful new features aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and real-time coordination among stakeholders. For the first time, citizens can directly participate by taking an e-pledge, accessing IEC materials, and locating nearby de-addiction centers instantly.

One of the key highlights is the “Nearest De-Addiction Centre” feature, which ensures timely access to treatment and referral services. Additionally, grant-in-aid institutions are now integrated into the platform with role-based access, enabling real-time monitoring of activities and fund utilization.

The app also includes feedback mechanisms and access to critical helplines, making it a comprehensive digital resource in the fight against substance abuse. By leveraging technology, the government aims to strengthen institutional frameworks and drive data-backed policy decisions.

With NMBA 2.0, India’s anti-drug campaign enters a new era—one that is more connected, transparent, and citizen-driven than ever before.
