Export Quality Under Scanner as Rejected Mango Shipments Raise Concerns

Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Export, Dinesh Pratap Singh, announced that the UP Mango Festival 2026 will be held from July 3 to July 5 in Lucknow. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the event, while a B2B session is scheduled for July 4 and the closing ceremony on July 5.
Tough Question on Export Rejections
During the press conference, Nishchay Times questioned the minister over reports that Indian mango consignments have allegedly been rejected or returned from overseas markets due to hazardous residues, quality concerns, or food safety compliance issues.
“So What If Two Mangoes Were Bad?”
Responding to the question, the minister remarked, “If two mangoes from an orchard or a consignment turned out to be bad, so what? Most consignments have no issues.”
A Casual Response to a Serious Issue?
The statement has triggered fresh debate over the government’s approach to export quality. Critics argue that even a single rejected shipment can damage India’s reputation in global markets, hurt exporters, and ultimately affect farmers’ incomes.
