UP Tex Mitra portal, handloom weaver scheme and textile skill development programme launched

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh has taken another significant step towards emerging as a global textile and garmenting hub. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the inaugural programme of the two-day UP Textile Conclave-2026 in Lucknow, where several initiatives aimed at strengthening the textile sector, supporting weavers and promoting investment were launched.
The event witnessed the launch of the UP Tex Mitra portal, the Handloom Weaver Prosperity Scheme and the Uttar Pradesh Textile Sector Training and Skill Development Scheme. These initiatives are expected to improve access to government support, strengthen traditional weaving communities and equip young people with industry-relevant skills.
The UP Tex Mitra portal is intended to provide a more accessible digital platform for investors, entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the textile sector. It is expected to help them access information about available facilities, government support and investment-related opportunities.
The Handloom Weaver Prosperity Scheme focuses on improving the economic prospects of traditional weavers. By providing better support and opportunities, the scheme aims to connect the handloom community with new markets, modern facilities and sustainable growth.
Under the Uttar Pradesh Textile and Garmenting Policy-2022, Letters of Comfort (LoCs) and incentive amounts were distributed to various companies. The move reflects the state government’s efforts to encourage investment and provide confidence to companies planning to establish or expand operations in Uttar Pradesh.
Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were also exchanged between the Uttar Pradesh Government and several companies. These agreements are expected to strengthen cooperation in areas related to textile manufacturing, investment, technology and employment generation.
Another major highlight of the conclave was the release of the book ‘Automation Digitalisation Readiness’. The publication underlines the growing importance of automation, digitalisation and modern production systems in the textile and garmenting industry.
The conclave brought investment, innovation and skill development into sharper focus. With its traditional handloom base, growing industrial infrastructure and policy support, Uttar Pradesh is seeking to expand beyond conventional textile production and establish itself as a competitive destination for modern garmenting and technical textiles.
The success of these initiatives, however, will depend on effective implementation, timely incentives, quality training and strong coordination between government and industry. If these priorities are addressed, the state could create new employment opportunities, improve productivity and strengthen its position in domestic and global textile markets.
