Special Chabeel and Langar Services Mark Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Martyrdom Observance

Religious ceremonies dedicated to the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji commenced today at the historic Gurudwara Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Yahiyaganj. The continuous recitation of Sukhmani Sahib began at 5:00 AM and will continue daily for the next 40 days from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM.
Gurudwara secretary Manmohan Singh Happy informed that under the coordination of Dr. Gurmeet Singh, the special prayers and recitations will conclude on June 18, the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. During these 40 days, devotees will also be served traditional raw lassi chabeel and Guru ka Langar as part of the seva.
Speakers during the gathering highlighted the sacrifices, teachings and humanitarian contributions of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Historical references were shared about how Mughal emperor Jahangir ordered his execution in 1606 under the rules of “Yasa,” where the martyr’s blood was not allowed to touch the ground. Guru Ji was made to sit on a burning hot plate and endured immense torture while remaining committed to truth, faith and humanity.
Devotees were reminded that Guru Arjan Dev Ji was born in 1563 at Goindwal in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district to Guru Ram Das and Mata Bhani Ji. Recognizing his wisdom, devotion and leadership qualities, Guru Ram Das Ji blessed him with the Gurta Gaddi. Guru Arjan Dev Ji devoted his life to social welfare, spiritual teachings and the message of equality and compassion.
He is also remembered for compiling the sacred hymns of the first four Sikh Gurus and saints into the Adi Bir, an important milestone in Sikh history. Speakers said his life continues to inspire humanity to stand united, help one another in difficult times and remain connected with Gurbani and spiritual values.
