Legal Help Desk Launched at Lucknow District Jail

Women Inmates Receive Spectacles, Families Get Legal Support Assistance

Under the Action Plan 2026-27 issued by the National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, and the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow, a special inspection and welfare initiative was conducted at District Jail Lucknow on Friday. The programme was organized under the guidance of District Judge Malkhan Singh with the objective of strengthening access to legal aid for inmates and their families.

During the visit, a Legal Help Desk was established outside the jail premises to assist family members of inmates with legal information and support services. The desk will provide guidance regarding free legal aid, legal rights, and judicial procedures to those in need.

Kunwar Mitresh Singh Kushwaha, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Lucknow, stated that ensuring equal access to justice for every citizen remains the top priority of the authority. He emphasized that such initiatives help provide timely legal assistance to economically and socially weaker sections of society.

On the occasion, the All India Payame Insaniyat Forum donated a water cooler for inmates and distributed 30 spectacles for women prisoners. The Legal Help Desk and water cooler were inaugurated by the Secretary through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Later, the women’s hospital inside the district jail was inspected, where spectacles were distributed among women inmates to help improve their daily lives and comfort. Officials noted that the initiative would greatly benefit prisoners facing eyesight-related issues.

The programme was attended by Senior Superintendent R.K. Jaiswal, Jailer Ritwik Priyadarshi, Rajesh Kumar, Sunil Dutt Mishra, Abhay Shukla, advocates of the Legal Aid Defense Council, members of the forum, and family members of inmates.
