In a massive power-move to rewrite India’s scientific and technological landscape, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, unleashed a wave of mega research initiatives at IIT Gandhinagar on June 11, 2026. Driving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ straight into action, the Minister formally inaugurated the cutting-edge, DST-funded Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) and launched three blockbuster interdisciplinary Research Clusters.
These high-impact clusters—namely Advanced Materials (AMRC), Energy (ERC), and Healthcare & MedTech (HMRC)—are meticulously designed to convert academic research into commercial reality. In a stunning show of corporate trust, nearly 70 top-tier industrial giants have already jumped on board as founding partners, establishing a phenomenal bridge between labs and markets.
Delivering a blunt, powerful speech to scientists and tech leaders, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the real success of science lies not in dusty research publications, but in its concrete impact on society and the economy. He urged that industries must not engage with academia at the final stage, but rather collaborate from the very conception of an idea to ensure seamless, real-world technology transfer.
The Minister fiercely highlighted the government’s monumental 1 Lakh Crore INR Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) initiative, alongside the National Quantum Mission and India-AI Mission. He stated that this phenomenal shared infrastructure at IIT Gandhinagar will act as a major launching pad for startups and drastically boost India’s ambitious Semiconductor Mission. With over 20 corporate offices and 30+ startups already thriving at the IIT Gandhinagar Research Park, India Inc. is officially speeding up its engine toward becoming a global tech sovereign.
