Uttar Pradesh has intensified its fight against dengue, malaria, Japanese encephalitis and other communicable diseases with the launch of a month-long Special Communicable Disease Control Campaign.

Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak inaugurated the campaign at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, flagging off a public awareness rally along with sanitation and fogging vehicles. He also joined the rally, urging citizens to adopt preventive health practices.

Statewide mobilisation

The campaign will run across all 75 districts from October 1 to October 31, 2026. From October 12 to 31, health teams will conduct the ‘Dastak Campaign’, visiting households to spread awareness, identify symptoms and collect information on suspected cases.

Fight begins at home

Pathak stressed that controlling communicable diseases cannot remain the responsibility of the health department alone. Urban development, rural development and Panchayati Raj departments, among others, are being brought together to strengthen sanitation, prevent waterlogging, undertake fogging and intensify public awareness.

Stop mosquito breeding

Citizens have been urged to prevent stagnant water around homes. Old tyres, broken containers, coolers, toys and other potential breeding sites must be checked regularly.

Pathak cautioned that dengue mosquitoes can breed even in clean water and generally bite during the daytime. Preventing water accumulation and maintaining cleanliness are therefore critical to reducing mosquito-borne diseases.

Lessons from sustained action

The Deputy Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has undertaken coordinated communicable disease control efforts since 2017. Sustained interventions have focused on Japanese encephalitis, dengue, malaria and kala-azar, particularly in areas where encephalitis had historically posed a serious public-health challenge.

Healthy lifestyle matters

Pathak called upon young people and children to make balanced nutrition, regular exercise and cleanliness part of their daily lives. He emphasised that good health habits should be cultivated from childhood.

His central message was clear: “Adopt healthy behaviour and defeat communicable diseases.”

He stressed that active public participation is indispensable for building healthier families and a safer Uttar Pradesh.

Senior officials from the Medical and Health Department, Family Welfare, Medical Education, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute and Lucknow health administration attended the launch programme.
