Modern Medicine, Research Vital to Save Critical Patients

ISICPM-2026 held in Ayodhya; Medical College linked with SGPGI’s ‘Spoke and Hub’ programme for online specialist consultation

: Emphasising the need for advanced medical practices, technology and continuous research in the treatment of critically ill patients, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that ensuring quality medical care before and after surgery is an important responsibility of the healthcare system.

Focus on Critical Care

He made the remarks while addressing the third national conference of the Indian Society of Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine (ISICPM)-2026, organised in Ayodhya by Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, focusing on critical patient care, modern treatment methods and medication management.

Pathak said that studying the latest developments, medical technologies and treatment practices taking place globally and implementing them effectively in the state is essential for strengthening healthcare delivery.

Ayodhya Gets Specialist Support

A major development highlighted during the conference was the inclusion of Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College, Ayodhya, in SGPGI’s ‘Spoke and Hub’ programme.

Under the arrangement, critically ill patients admitted to the Ayodhya medical college will be able to receive online consultations from specialist doctors at SGPGI. The Deputy Chief Minister said that six medical colleges were already connected with the system and the inclusion of Ayodhya would further strengthen its reach.

The system is expected to facilitate timely expert advice and make referrals to higher medical institutions more effective whenever required.

85 Medical Colleges Operational

Pathak said Uttar Pradesh has witnessed significant expansion in medical education and healthcare services since 2017. According to him, 85 medical colleges are currently functioning at full capacity, while 45 new medical colleges have been established since 2017.

Research Holds the Key

The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that wider use of modern technology, exchange of professional knowledge and experience, continuous research and innovation would play a decisive role in taking healthcare services in the state to a new level.

Those present included Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi, MLAs Abhay Singh and Chandrabhanu Paswan, District Vice-President Krishna Kumar Pandey, SGPGI Director Prof. R.K. Dhiman, Principal of Rajarshi Dashrath Medical College Prof. Dinesh Singh, ISICPM President Prof. S.P. Amrish, Organising Chairman Prof. Sanjay, Head of Anaesthesia Department Prof. J.P. Tiwari and Organising Secretary Prof. Puneet Goyal, besides other doctors and dignitaries.
