Animal Husbandry Dept Inks Crucial MoUs with GFST & The Goat Trust to Scale Up Rural Entrepreneurship

In a landmark step to structuralize small-scale animal husbandry into a highly organized and profitable business, Uttar Pradesh inaugurated its first-ever two-day “U.P. Small Livestock Conclave-2026” today at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow. The mega event was jointly kicked off by UP Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister, Shri Dharampal Singh, and Minister of State, Smt. Krishna Paswan. The conclave serves as a dynamic platform to position sheep, goat, and pig farming as primary drivers of rural employment, nutritional security, and women empowerment.
Massive 90% Government Subsidies to Boost Rural Income Addressing the national delegation of scientists and entrepreneurs, Minister Dharampal Singh noted that Uttar Pradesh possesses the country’s richest livestock pool, housing 144.80 lakh goats, 9.85 lakh sheep, and 4.09 lakh pigs. To aggressively scale up operations, the state government is offering a phenomenal 90% subsidy across multiple schemes:
Goat Farming: A unit costing ₹60,000 is backed by a 90% grant, with a targeting layout of 1,896 units for 2026-27.
Sheep Farming: Units valued at ₹1,70,000 are 90% subsidized, with 225 units planned for the current fiscal year.
Pig Rearing: A target of 218 units has been set under a 90% subsidized module of ₹1,47,400 per unit.
Strategic MoUs Signed for Structural Innovation To introduce modern technological interventions, the Animal Husbandry Department signed two separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Global Forum for Sustainable Transformation (GFST) and The Goat Trust. These pacts will specifically facilitate breed improvement, policy frameworks, advanced training, capacity building, and superior animal healthcare management systems on the ground.
Principal Secretary, Shri Mukesh Kumar Meshram, concluded that this unified focus on the White, Blue, and Pink revolutions will not only unlock vast investment windows for startups but will also bridge the commercial roadmap needed to accelerate UP’s mission towards a $1 Trillion economy.
