5 Years of Ministry of Co-operation: Empowering 30 Crore Citizens

The co-operative sector has transformed into the ultimate engine of India’s rural economy. Speaking at the 5th Foundation Day of the Ministry of Co-operation in New Delhi, Union Home and Co-operation Minister Shri Amit Shah unveiled an aggressive, tech-driven roadmap for a ‘Vibrant India.’

Reviving a Legacy: From Neglect to Empowerment

In 2021, PM Narendra Modi took the historic step of creating an independent Ministry of Co-operation. Breaking 75 years of systemic neglect, this move has breathed new life into over 8.5 lakh co-operative societies and 32 crore members.

The Blueprint for ‘Vibrant India’ @2047

Co-operatives will form the bedrock of India’s economy when the nation celebrates its independence centenary in 2047. Nine new national-level co-operative societies have been formed across banking, dairy, agriculture, and mobility to challenge global standards within the next decade.

The Mega Digital Transformation of PACS

  • Tech Infusion: With an investment of ₹3,000 crore, 50,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) have been converted into paperless ‘E-PACS’.

  • Multi-Service Hubs: 55,000 PACS now offer CSC digital services, while 39,000 operate as Kisan Samriddhi Kendras and 639 as Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

Co-operative Banking Business Crosses ₹25 Lakh Crore

With the implementation of cyber security, E-KYC, and mobile banking, the business of District Co-operative Banks has skyrocketed from ₹19.6 lakh crore to over ₹25 lakh crore. Furthermore, the net NPA of urban co-operative banks has drastically dropped to an impressive 0.7%.

Agriculture & Next-Gen Seed Production

  • BBSSL Mega Push: The Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited is on track to become India’s largest non-government seed producer in the next 3 years.

  • Tissue Culture Units: New high-tech units in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra will provide premium potato, banana, and papaya seeds to local farmers.

Disrupting New Sectors: Insurance & Transport

  • Gomay Sahakari Samiti: Moving from ‘Food Provider to Energy Provider,’ this initiative focuses on dung management, bio-fertilizers, and green energy.

  • Life Insurance Venture: In partnership with IFFCO-Tokio, a dedicated co-operative life insurance company is being launched.

  • Bharat Taxi: Set to expand across 500+ cities in 2 years, liberating drivers from corporate exploitation.

Tribhuvan Co-operative University to Eliminate Corruption

To institutionalize transparency, Tribhuvan Co-operative University will train highly skilled professionals. Merit-based recruitments will govern operations from PACS to the Apex level, wiping out nepotism and financial irregularities.

Historic ₹46,000 Crore Tax Relief for Farmers

The Modi government resolved decades-old tax disputes by waiving ₹46,000 crore in income tax for sugarcane farmers. A new circular economy model in sugar mills ensures that profits go directly into farmers’ bank accounts.

Shri Amit Shah paid rich tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, emphasizing that his vision of a fully integrated Kashmir was finally realized by PM Narendra Modi through the abrogation of Article 370.
