: India has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform its toy industry into a global manufacturing and export powerhouse. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced the formation of a dedicated Task Force to accelerate the sector’s growth, with the bold objective of securing 5% of the global toy market by 2032.
A Strategic Push for Global Competitiveness
The announcement was made during the stakeholder conference “Team Up for Toys: Driving Scale, Innovation and Exports,” organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. The event brought together policymakers, manufacturers, startups, investors, designers, artisans, and industry leaders to chart the future of India’s toy ecosystem.
Six-Pillar Growth Strategy
The newly announced Task Force will focus on six strategic priorities: integration with global value chains, strengthening domestic manufacturing, removing supply-chain bottlenecks, creating skilled employment, fostering design and innovation, and improving ease of doing business. The initiative is aimed at positioning India as a preferred global destination for toy production and exports.
Playbook for the Future
On the occasion, Minister Goyal launched the Toy Sector Playbook, a comprehensive roadmap designed for manufacturers, MSMEs, startups, entrepreneurs, and investors. The guide provides actionable insights on manufacturing ecosystems, quality standards, compliance, skill development, intellectual property, product innovation, branding, and export opportunities.
Building Globally Recognized Indian Brands
Highlighting the remarkable progress of the sector, Goyal urged industry stakeholders to invest in advanced technology, world-class quality standards, localization, sustainability, and branding. He emphasized that India’s toy industry reflects the country’s creativity, manufacturing excellence, and rich cultural heritage, making it well-positioned for international expansion.
A Rapidly Growing Ecosystem
According to DPIIT, India today has more than 21,000 MSMEs, over 770 DPIIT-recognized toy startups, around 50 toy clusters, and 1,800+ BIS-certified manufacturing units. Industry leaders concluded the meeting with a shared vision that the toys of the future should not merely be “Made in India,” but also “Designed in India,” “Innovated in India,” and “Branded in India,” strengthening India’s emergence as a trusted global toy hub.
