: Marking yet another monumental milestone in India’s indigenous defense manufacturing journey, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, officially delivered ‘Mangrol’—the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC)—to the Indian Navy.
Comprising over 80 percent indigenous content, Mangrol is meticulously engineered for advanced underwater surveillance, anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters, and mine-warfare capabilities. Propelled by high-performance waterjets, the warship is heavily armed with state-of-the-art torpedoes, ASW rockets, and cutting-edge radars to safeguard India’s maritime frontiers.
A Legacy of Valor: The ship derives its proud moniker from ‘Mangrol’, a historic coastal town and major fishing harbor in Gujarat’s Junagadh district. Furthermore, it proudly inherits the legacy of the erstwhile INS Mangrol, a minesweeper that served the Indian Navy with distinction until 2004.
The induction of Mangrol reaffirms the government’s unwavering commitment to an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, showcasing the rapidly expanding prowess and global competitiveness of India’s indigenous defense ecosystem.
