State government issues order naming chairman and eight members; Akhilesh Yadav calls the development a victory for SP’s legal efforts

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Minority Commission, which had remained vacant for a prolonged period, has finally been constituted by the state government. The Minority Welfare Department has issued an official order naming the chairman and members of the newly constituted commission.
According to the government order, Mohsin Raza has been appointed Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Minority Commission. Sandeep Jain, Dr. Ashish Jain, Anshuman Kumar Singh Macey, Mohammad Aslam, Sardar Parvinder Singh Bedi, Neha Khan, Syed Abbas Rizvi and Rumana Siddiqui have been appointed as members.
The appointments have been made under Sections 3 and 4(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission Act, 1994, as amended. The order states that the chairman and members will hold office for three years from the date of assuming charge or during the pleasure of the state government, whichever is earlier.
The constitution of the commission has also triggered a political response from Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who has described the development as a victory for the party’s sustained legal efforts.
Akhilesh Yadav said that he had filed Writ Petition No. 34/2025 before the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench, and that continuous legal advocacy and efforts were made regarding the constitution of the commission.
Following the state government’s decision, Yadav congratulated Chairman Mohsin Raza and all newly appointed members and extended his best wishes to them.
The constitution of the commission marks the end of a prolonged vacancy and is expected to bring fresh momentum to its functioning. The commission is an important institutional body for addressing issues and grievances concerning minority communities in Uttar Pradesh.
The development also carries political significance, with the Samajwadi Party linking the government’s decision to the writ petition and the sustained efforts made before the court.
With the new chairman and members now appointed, attention will shift to the commission’s functioning and the issues it takes up in the coming months.
