: The electoral contest for the Lucknow Graduate Constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council gained another independent voice on the fourth day of the nomination process, with Sunil Kumar Srivastava, a resident of Jankipuram, Lucknow, filing his nomination as an independent candidate.
His nomination was proposed by Sanjay Kumar Gupta, who accompanied the electoral process.

An Independent Campaign
Srivastava is positioning his campaign around the issues faced by graduates rather than conventional party-based electoral politics. His stated objective is to create a sustained platform through which graduates can raise issues relating to employment, education, career opportunities and access to government support programmes.
Seven-District Roadmap
A key element of his proposed campaign roadmap is the establishment of offices across all seven districts covered by the Lucknow Graduate Constituency.
According to the campaign vision, these offices would function as local points of contact for graduates, helping identify their problems and taking their concerns to the appropriate authorities and institutional forums.
Information as Empowerment
A major focus of the campaign is the lack of awareness among young graduates about government schemes.
Srivastava says that more than 150 schemes and programmes are available for young people and graduates, but many potential beneficiaries remain unaware of their eligibility, benefits and application procedures.
From Awareness to Access
The proposed network would seek to bridge this information gap by helping graduates understand available schemes, employment-related opportunities and government assistance programmes.
The campaign intends to focus not merely on registering grievances but also on connecting graduates with the relevant departments and institutional mechanisms.

Three Nominations Filed
According to Returning Officer and Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, three nominations were filed on October 3.
In the Teachers’ Constituency, Shravan Kumar Tripathi and Shah Alam Khan filed their nominations as independents, while Sunil Kumar Srivastava filed his nomination from the Graduate Constituency.
Three nomination forms were also distributed on the day. Sushil Kumar sought the form for the Teachers’ Constituency, while Vakil Ahmad Ansari and Avinash Kumar Singh sought forms for the Graduate Constituency.
A Campaign Built Around Issues
With his nomination now formally in the electoral field, Srivastava’s challenge will be to convert his seven-district organisational roadmap and graduate-focused agenda into a wider electoral movement.
The coming phase of the campaign will reveal whether issues such as information, employment, government schemes and accountability can become decisive themes among graduate voters.
