The Samajwadi Party commemorated the death anniversary of its founder, former Defence Minister and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, with a major tribute programme at Saifai in Etawah. Party national president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, national general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav, MP Dimple Yadav and several other leaders joined thousands of party workers in paying homage at the leader’s memorial.
‘Help Is the First Step Towards Humanity’
Remembering his father’s political and social legacy, Akhilesh Yadav described Mulayam Singh Yadav’s life as an enduring commitment to socialist principles, equality and the rights of disadvantaged communities.
He said the veteran leader believed that society must reach out to its most vulnerable members and bring them forward as equal partners. Merely declaring equality on paper, he argued, would not deliver meaningful change unless social discrimination and divisions were also eliminated.
Akhilesh linked the party’s PDA political framework—associated with backward classes, Dalits and minorities—to the values of affection, compassion and belonging. He pledged to continue the struggle for the rights of people facing deprivation, injustice and humiliation, while carrying forward Mulayam Singh Yadav’s development initiatives and socialist ideology.
Electoral Commission Under Scrutiny
Following the tribute programme, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of attempting to influence the electoral process and questioned its response to allegations against the Election Commission.
He said the Election Commission, as a constitutional institution, must maintain public confidence through impartial decision-making. He questioned why the BJP frequently came forward to defend the commission when concerns were raised about its functioning.
The SP chief alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh had been accompanied by attempts to remove voters through the alleged misuse of Form 7. He cited purported instances in Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar constituency and Bidhuna constituency in Auraiya district, claiming that forms had been submitted using excessive applications or forged signatures.
Akhilesh said his party had lodged complaints and submitted evidence but alleged that effective action had not followed. These remain allegations attributed to the SP leadership; the material provided does not include an official response from the Election Commission or the authorities concerned.
Uttar Pradesh 2027 in Focus
Akhilesh Yadav described the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election as a crucial political contest concerning democracy, the Constitution and reservation rights. He called upon farmers, young people, students, traders and other sections of society to unite.
The anniversary programme thus combined a tribute to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political legacy with a renewed focus on electoral transparency and the SP’s preparations for the next Assembly election.
