Samajwadi Party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav mounted a strong political attack on the BJP-led government, alleging that the handling of student protests reflects an erosion of democratic values. Speaking to the media in the Parliament complex, Yadav claimed that the reported use of force against protesting students was unacceptable in a democracy.
He alleged that baton charges, tear gas and other coercive measures against students demanding accountability over examination-related issues had created widespread concern among young people. According to him, governments should engage with students through dialogue rather than confrontation.
Government Cornered Over Examination Issues
Yadav questioned the government’s handling of the alleged NEET irregularities and repeated examination paper leak controversies. He argued that repeated disruptions in recruitment and competitive examinations have shaken the confidence of millions of aspirants.
He further claimed that several recruitment examinations in Uttar Pradesh had also faced controversies, leaving candidates uncertain about their future.
“Youth Need Opportunities, Not Assurances”
The Samajwadi Party chief said the middle class places its hopes on education and employment, but young aspirants continue to struggle due to delayed recruitments and examination-related controversies. He alleged that despite claims of rapid development and investment, employment opportunities remain a major concern for the country’s youth.
Calls for Transparency and Accountability
Yadav demanded fair investigations into examination-related irregularities and strict action against those found responsible. He maintained that democratic institutions must protect the rights of students and ensure that legitimate concerns are addressed through transparent governance.
Political observers view his remarks as part of the opposition’s broader campaign to highlight youth-centric issues ahead of future electoral battles. The government has not issued an official response to these specific allegations.
