PM Modi Warns G7 Against Weaponization of Trade & Tech; Reaffirms India’s Identity as Global First Responder

Addressing the crucial Outreach Session on ‘Building New Partnerships and Reigniting International Solidarity’ at the G7 Summit in Evian, France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated for a more transparent and equitable world order. Highlighting that contemporary challenges like energy, food, health, cyber, and economic security are deeply interconnected, the Prime Minister emphasized that forming inclusive international alliances is imperative for human prosperity.
A Warning Against Narrow Geopolitical Interests Expressing concern over the current global environment, PM Modi pointed out that in an uncertain world, trade and technology are increasingly being exploited for narrow, protectionist gains. He noted that this dangerous trend has resulted in a severe deficit of mutual trust across borders. Drawing lessons from the shared trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic, he made a strong appeal to global leaders to inject transparency and reliability back into international collaborative frameworks.
India’s Core Philosophy: Humanity First Elaborating on India’s diplomatic trajectory, the Prime Minister reiterated the foundational baseline of “Humanity First.” This inclusive vision drives India’s signature climate initiatives, such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA), the Global Bio-fuels Alliance, and the ‘One Tree in Mother’s Name’ campaign. Embodying this spirit, India has consistently acted as the first responder during ecological disasters worldwide—whether providing rapid relief after cyclones in Sri Lanka, earthquakes in Afghanistan, floods in Mozambique, or hurricanes in Jamaica.
Moving Toward Equal Partnerships PM Modi asserted that modern international equations must transcend the traditional, vertical “donor-recipient” dynamics and transition toward equal equity and shared ownership. He strictly noted that a disregard for international laws remains the biggest roadblock to cultivating absolute solidarity. To preserve long-term peace and stabilization, the Prime Minister concluded that dialogue and institutional diplomacy must remain the non-negotiable choice for international partnerships.
