Candidate selection, booth-level restructuring and public outreach take centre stage at crucial Lucknow review meeting

: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has intensified preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, calling upon party leaders and workers to strengthen the organisation from the state level down to every polling booth.
At an important review meeting in Lucknow, senior office-bearers from the BSP’s Uttar Pradesh State Unit, divisional units and all 75 districts discussed the progress of candidate selection and the party’s wider election strategy. The meeting focused on strengthening the organisation and ensuring that preparations are completed in a disciplined and time-bound manner.
A major focus of the discussion was the restructuring of committees at the polling-booth level. Mayawati directed party leaders to remove organisational shortcomings quickly and make the election machinery more active in view of the changing political situation.
The BSP chief also warned people against being influenced by what the party described as attractive promises, election-time benefits and other political inducements. She said voters should remain alert and exercise their democratic choice independently and fairly.
Mayawati highlighted issues such as inflation, poverty, unemployment and migration, describing them as serious challenges facing the people. She maintained that public welfare should remain a continuous responsibility of governments rather than becoming a priority only during election periods.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the October 9 programme marking the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. Party workers were asked to organise the event with full commitment and missionary spirit.
Mayawati also expressed deep sorrow over the heavy loss of life and property caused by floods in neighbouring Nepal, including losses affecting Indian families. She urged authorities to ensure prompt assistance for flood-affected people and stressed the need for long-term solutions to recurring flood-related crises, particularly in vulnerable regions.
