Strict Action in Badaun After Court Orders, Heavy Fines and License Suspension Ahead

: Authorities in Badaun have announced a strict crackdown on vehicles using modified silencers, pressure horns, and hooters, following directives from the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench. The move aims to curb rising noise pollution and enforce road safety norms more effectively.
In compliance with instructions issued by the Transport Commissioner, a meeting was held on April 18, 2026, at the Sub-Regional Transport Office in Badaun with dealers, motor garages, and workshop operators. Officials briefed them on the legal provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and warned of strict enforcement.
Under Section 182A(3) of the Act, any garage or workshop found selling or installing modified silencers or noise-amplifying devices will face a penalty of up to ₹1 lakh per violation.
Vehicle owners making unauthorized modifications through aftermarket fittings will be penalized under Section 182A(4), which includes imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to ₹5,000, or both.
Further, under Section 190(2), anyone driving or allowing such vehicles in public places in violation of noise, safety, or emission norms may face up to three months of imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹10,000, or both. Additionally, the driving license can be disqualified for three months.
Authorities have also stated that vehicles found with modified silencers may face suspension of their Registration Certificate (RC) under Section 53(1) of the Act, ensuring stricter compliance.
Officials have urged citizens to avoid illegal modifications and adhere to prescribed norms, emphasizing that such steps are crucial for maintaining public safety and environmental standards.
This decisive action signals a zero-tolerance approach toward violations, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to safer and quieter roads.
