Ministry of AYUSH, through the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), has launched a five-day capacity building training programme aimed at strengthening regulatory knowledge, quality standards, and technical expertise in the Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy (ASU&H) sector. The programme is being conducted from May 18 to May 22, 2026.

The initiative has brought together drug regulators, enforcement officers, quality control personnel, scientists, researchers, faculty members, and technical experts from across the country. The primary objective is to enhance professional competencies and improve standardization and quality assurance mechanisms in the traditional medicine sector.

During the inaugural session, Jaspal Kaur Pradyot, Chief Controller of Accounts, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, emphasized the importance of adopting advanced scientific techniques and modern analytical tools for the development of quality standards in ASU&H medicines. She also highlighted the growing global acceptance and popularity of India’s traditional systems of medicine.

Dr. Abdul Qayoom, Director (Technical) and Deputy CEO of the National Medicinal Plants Board under the Ministry of AYUSH, praised the international recognition earned by Indian pharmacopoeia and formulary standards. He stated that the rising global demand for Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy medicines reflects India’s expanding leadership in traditional healthcare systems.

Participants will receive specialized training on NABL accreditation, Quality Management Systems (QMS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), pharmacognostic and phytochemical evaluation, microbiological testing, herbal drug standardization, regulatory frameworks, and shelf-life studies of ASU&H medicines.

The programme also includes laboratory-based practical sessions at PCIM&H along with industrial visits to Dr. Willmar Schwabe India Pvt. Ltd. in Noida and Hamdard Laboratories India in Ghaziabad. These visits are intended to provide participants with hands-on exposure to modern manufacturing technologies and quality assurance systems used in the herbal and traditional medicine industry.

Experts believe this initiative will significantly strengthen professional excellence, improve global credibility of Indian traditional medicine systems, and reinforce India’s position as a global leader in standardization and regulation of ASU&H medicines.
