Rural Economy Gets a Strong Boost

In Lucknow, a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Program was organized at Manyavar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management under the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, focusing on transforming homestay operators into professional hospitality entrepreneurs. The program, held from March 16 to 20, 2026, saw participation from 31 homestay owners across the state.
The initiative aimed to promote the vision of “Hospitality to Self-Reliance” by equipping participants with modern skills in tourism and hospitality management. Training sessions covered key aspects such as homestay operations, cost management, pricing strategies, service improvement, and customer satisfaction. Participants were also guided on interior design, maintenance, and problem-solving techniques.
Jaiveer Singh, Minister for Tourism and Culture, emphasized that the state government is committed to boosting tourism through innovation and skill development. He highlighted that the homestay model not only offers affordable and personalized experiences to tourists but also creates employment opportunities at the grassroots level.
The program also included sessions on social media marketing, digital payments, guest registration, and responsible tourism practices. Participants were trained in energy conservation, alternative energy usage, customer service, personality development, and promotion of local products.
Attendees from districts like Varanasi, Ambedkar Nagar, and Unnao described the initiative as a game-changer for rural tourism. They expressed that the training would help them enhance their business operations and deliver better experiences to visitors.
The Uttar Pradesh government envisions homestays as a key pillar of tourism growth, aiming to strengthen rural economies while offering authentic and comfortable experiences to travelers.
