In a significant administrative reform, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has streamlined its arbitration mechanism by reducing the committee size from five members to three. The move is aimed at expediting the resolution of contractual disputes involving drivers and conductors.
Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh announced that the decision was taken in response to the growing number of pending cases related to contractual agreements of drivers and conductors. Delays in dispute resolution had been a major concern, prompting the need for a more efficient system.
Earlier, under the provisions of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, particularly Section 10(1), a five-member arbitration committee was constituted. This panel included the Regional Manager, Service Manager, Assistant Regional Manager (Finance), the senior-most Assistant Regional Manager, and an Assistant Legal Officer.
Under the revised framework, the committee will now consist of the Regional Manager along with any two officials from the previously designated roles. This reduction is expected to make the decision-making process quicker, more focused, and efficient.
The government believes that a leaner committee will help in faster hearings and timely disposal of cases, ultimately benefiting contractual employees by ensuring prompt justice. It also reflects a broader push towards administrative efficiency and responsive governance.
This reform is being viewed as a progressive step towards modernizing the operational framework of the transport corporation while enhancing trust among its workforce.
