India and the Republic of Korea have reinforced their commitment to energy resource security through a joint statement that highlights a forward-looking strategic partnership. This collaboration goes beyond conventional trade ties and reflects a shared vision of a stable, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

At the core of this partnership lies a robust economic and energy framework built on open markets, rules-based trade, and mutual trust. In the current global scenario, where disruptions in supply chains have become increasingly frequent, both nations emphasized the urgent need to strengthen resilience and ensure market stability.

India remains a key supplier of naphtha and other petroleum feedstocks to Korea, while Korea plays a crucial role in supplying petroleum products and lubricant base oils to India. Recognizing the importance of this synergy, both countries have committed to enhancing cooperation under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and other bilateral frameworks.

A major highlight of the statement is the focus on accelerating energy transition while ensuring stability in traditional energy supplies. As leading LNG consumers, India and Korea acknowledged the importance of deeper collaboration to improve market transparency and better represent buyer perspectives in the global LNG market.

The partnership also underscores the critical role of maritime infrastructure, particularly shipbuilding, in ensuring energy security. Both countries plan to expand cooperation in this sector, including establishing shipyards in India, modernizing existing facilities, advancing technology, and investing in human resource development. These efforts aim to facilitate safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of energy resources.

Furthermore, India and Korea have jointly called upon regional and global partners to maintain open and secure energy supply chains. This collective effort is seen as essential for safeguarding economic growth, stability, and the well-being of populations across regions.
