The Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh has announced its new leadership during the first council meeting for the financial year 2026–27. Mayank Khanna has been named President, while Varsha Singhania will serve as Vice-President.
In addition, 15 members have been nominated to the council, including prominent names such as Anurag Lohia, Ajay Kumar Sarawagi, Anil Kumar Agrawal, Ashish Singh Chauhan, Akash Goenka, Dr. J. N. Gupta, Partho Pratim Kar, Prem Manohar Gupta, R. K. Agrawal, Rohit Agrawal, Sandeep Gupta, Tarun Garg, Vijay Kumar Pandey, Shyam Mehrotra, and Sushil Sharma.
While the announcement has sparked expectations within the business community, concerns remain over unresolved issues such as tax complexities, market volatility, and policy uncertainty. Many traders believe that merely changing leadership may not be enough to address these long-standing challenges.
The Chamber has expressed confidence that the new governing council will strengthen trade interests and contribute to industrial growth in the state. However, similar assurances in the past have often failed to translate into tangible outcomes.
The newly appointed members will formally assume office during the Annual General Meeting scheduled in September. Until then, stakeholders remain cautious, watching whether the new leadership will deliver concrete reforms or remain confined to ceremonial roles.
