In a massive push to empower the traditional fishing community and local aquapreneurs, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially opened the application window for the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The State Minister for Fisheries Development, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad, announced that the scheme’s tenure has been successfully extended to September 2026, unlocking fresh avenues for financial growth and technological advancement in the sector.
Eligible beneficiaries looking to transform their aquatic businesses can apply online via the official portal http://fisheries.up.gov.in between August 14 and August 24, 2026.
Key Projects Unleashing New Potential: Designed to maximize the scientific utilization of water resources and double the income of fish farmers, the government is inviting applications for six transformative projects:
Pond Construction: Large-scale pond development covering 33.93 hectares (Open to General, Women, and SC categories).
Tech-Driven Aquaculture: 3 units of Medium RAS (General category) and 241 units of Backyard RAS (Women category) to promote modern farming.
Rearing Infrastructure: Construction of rearing units spanning 22.667 hectares (Women and SC categories).
Reservoir Stocking: Introduction of 65,000 fingerlings into local reservoirs to boost aquatic life.
Community Support: 500 specialized units dedicated to providing livelihood and nutritional support to traditional fisher families.
A Vision for Blue Revolution and Self-Reliance: Dr. Nishad highlighted that these strategic investments will drastically boost fish production and productivity across the state. By integrating modern technology with traditional practices, the state aims to generate robust employment and self-employment opportunities.
To ensure the benefits reach the grassroots, officials have been strictly instructed to process applications promptly and provide continuous technical handholding to the beneficiaries. This initiative is not just a government scheme; it is a vital lifeline designed to secure the financial future of the state’s fishing communities and catalyze a true Blue Revolution.
