In a major push towards public health and wellness, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge), Dr. Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’, officially inaugurated the ‘Yoga Week’ (June 15–21) today at the Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Lucknow. Commemorating the run-up to the 12th International Yoga Day, the minister urged citizens to dedicate at least 30 minutes daily to yoga practice to battle modern lifestyle disorders.

Yoga Nurtures Both the Body and Mind Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mishra emphasized the deep scientific benefits of India’s ancient tradition. “While ordinary gym exercises only look after your physical attributes, Yoga is the solitary discipline that rejuvenates the body, mind, and intellect simultaneously,” the Minister stated. He further broke stereotypes by asserting that Yoga is not a religious ritual but a holistic science of survival, which is why even Islamic nations have globally accepted its dynamic benefits.

Grand Blueprint for All 75 Districts Principal Secretary of Ayush, Mr. Ranjan Kumar, outlined the expansive structural layout for the upcoming main event on June 21, 2026. Centered around this year’s core theme, “YOGA FOR HEALTHY AGEING”, mass yoga sessions will be conducted across all gram panchayats in the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. To drive maximum community engagement, the state has launched various interactive online competitions on its official portal http://kavach.upayush.in, aiming to orchestrate a grand turnout to register a new world record.

Medical Experts Detail Therapeutic Impacts The event also featured high-octane scientific sessions. Dr. Anurag Srivastava from All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, revealed critical clinical observations indicating that yoga and ayurveda vastly minimize the painful side-effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in cancer patients. Additionally, Dr. Amarjeet Yadav from Lucknow University threw light on neurological regulations through yoga that help humans master control over rage and anxiety.

The mega event concluded with brilliant yoga performances by the children of Dayanand Bal Vidyalaya and a ceremonial tree plantation drive led by the dignitaries, including Director General Ayush, Ms. Chaitra V.
