Serious concerns have emerged over the accuracy and transparency of Uttar Pradesh’s electoral rolls following the latest data released during the Special Intensive Revision 2026 of the voter list.
Addressing a press conference at the Lok Bhavan Media Centre in Lucknow, Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa presented statistics from the claim and objection period held between January 6 and March 6, 2026. The figures indicate a significant number of discrepancies and incomplete verifications in the electoral database.
According to the draft electoral roll published on January 6, 2026, Uttar Pradesh currently has 125.56 million registered voters, including 68.84 million male voters, 56.70 million female voters, and 4,119 third-gender voters.
However, a key concern raised during the revision process was that 10.4 million voters did not complete the verification process, while 22.2 million voter entries showed logical inconsistencies in their details. Authorities had to issue notices to these individuals and initiate hearings to resolve the discrepancies.
Notices began to be issued on January 14, with hearings starting from January 21. So far, 93.8 percent of notices have been delivered, while 85.8 percent of hearings have been completed. The process has involved 403 Electoral Registration Officers, 12,758 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and 5,621 hearing centers across the state.
During the claim and objection period, officials received 7.06 million Form-6 applications for adding new voters, 268,682 Form-7 applications for deletion of names, and 1.63 million Form-8 applications for corrections or updates in voter details. The high volume of correction requests has further highlighted the scale of inconsistencies in the electoral data.
Election authorities have clarified that no name can be deleted from the draft electoral roll without issuing notice and following due legal procedure. Nevertheless, the large number of discrepancies and verification failures has raised questions about the reliability of electoral data ahead of future elections.
Political parties have also been actively involved in the revision exercise. A total of 3,090 meetings were held with party representatives, and 582,877 booth-level agents participated in the process. Despite this engagement, complaints from political parties indicate that the voter list revision may continue to remain a politically sensitive issue.
