: Samajwadi Party National President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that poets, writers and individuals making outstanding contributions to society will continue to receive recognition in the future. Addressing a felicitation programme for veteran poet and former Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan chairman Uday Pratap Singh, Yadav said the tradition of honouring literary and social contributors established during the tenure of Mulayam Singh Yadav would be carried forward. He also announced that the Yash Bharti award amount would be doubled.

The remarks came during the launch of the ‘Dr. Uday Pratap Singh Guru Ji Abhinandan Granth’ at the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hall at the Samajwadi Party state headquarters in Lucknow. Akhilesh Yadav congratulated Uday Pratap Singh and wished him a long and healthy life.

Describing Uday Pratap Singh as a poet deeply associated with socialist thought, Yadav said his poetry is frequently quoted and remains influential. He recalled Singh’s public and literary contributions, noting that he had represented Mainpuri in the Lok Sabha twice and also served as a Rajya Sabha member.

Yadav further recalled that Uday Pratap Singh led the Indian delegation at the World Hindi Conference in Suriname in 1993. He also highlighted Singh’s creative contribution to the Samajwadi Party, saying that he transformed a Grammy Award-winning song containing around 150 names into the Hindi party song ‘Geet Man Se Mulayam’.

Expressing gratitude for the honour, Uday Pratap Singh thanked the Maa Santoshi Foundation and other well-wishers. He said that although he had received several honours, including the Yash Bharti and an Acharya degree in Suriname, recognition from his home district Mainpuri remained especially meaningful. He also presented a newly written ghazal during the programme.

Senior poet Surya Kumar Pandey praised Singh’s intellectual sharpness and socialist commitment. Poet Sarita Sharma, social personality Sarvesh Asthana and former IAS officer D.N. Lal also spoke about his personality, literary contribution and life lessons.

The Maa Santoshi Foundation also felicitated Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav. Several senior Samajwadi Party leaders, poets, journalists, academics and social activists attended the programme.
