Reinforcing its steadfast commitment to sustainable infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially unveiled the winners of the highly anticipated ‘Green Highways Excellence Awards 2026.’ Designed to honor exemplary plantation management and greening practices along India’s vast national highway networks, the awards span three distinct categories: avenue plantation, median plantation, and parcel/interchange plantation covering clover leaves, toll plazas, and service areas.
Out of 86 enthusiastic entries received from regional offices, concessionaires, contractors, and NGOs nationwide, the selection process underwent a rigorous, multi-tiered evaluation. In Category-I (Avenue Plantation), the 6-laning of the Chilakaluripet Bypass on NH-16 in Andhra Pradesh clinched the top honor. In Category-II (Median Plantation), the 4-laning of the Hyderabad-Yadgiri section on NH-163 secured first place. Meanwhile, in Category-III (Parcel/Plot Plantation), the Jamtha Clover Leaf (Oxygen Bird Park) on NH-44 in Nagpur triumphed as the winner, alongside notable accolades for Varanasi Ring Road and Lucknow-Ayodhya highway plantation projects.
The evaluation framework prioritized survival rates, geo-tagged visual verification, drone analytics, species diversity, and structural resilience. Rooted in the visionary Green Highways Policy of 2015, these awards serve as a powerful catalyst for blending rapid infrastructural modernization with ecological preservation, ensuring that India’s national roadways drive both economic growth and environmental regeneration.
