The historic city of Kanpur witnessed a captivating evening of music and ghazals as the Cultural Committee of the Merchants’ Chamber of Uttar Pradesh hosted a special musical programme, ‘Mehfil-e-Ghazal’, at the S. Padampat Singhania Auditorium. Renowned ghazal singers from the city delivered soulful performances that kept the audience spellbound throughout the evening.
The programme was conducted by Swatantra Singh, Chairman of the Cultural Committee. A major highlight of the evening was the gracious presence of eminent ghazal singer and musician Guru Yugantar Sindoor, a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award conferred by President Droupadi Murmu.
Guru Yugantar Sindoor was felicitated by former Chamber President Dr. I.M. Rohtagi, Cultural Committee Vice-Chairman Vimal Jhajharia and Council Member Vijay Pandey with a shawl, garland and memento.
The chief guest, Devendra Pratap Singh, SDM Unnao, also won hearts with his rendition of popular songs by legendary singer Kishore Kumar. Appreciating the event, he said that music and ghazals are an integral part of India’s rich cultural heritage and that such programmes play an important role in connecting the younger generation with the country’s musical traditions.
The musical performances featured Pradeep Srivastava, Shweta Srivastava, Sanjay Swarnkar, Kapil Sharma, Manisha Singh Rajawat, Durgesh, Pooja Bhadauria and Yogesh Bhadauria, who impressed the audience with their powerful and melodious voices.
The instrumental accompaniment further enriched the evening. Harish Jha and Shubham Verma performed on tabla, Sameer Sachan on piano and keyboard, and Devanand Pathak on violin.
The artists presented popular ghazals including ‘Tum Ye Kaise Juda Ho Gaye’, ‘Humko Kis Ke Gham Ne Mara’, ‘Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar, Ek Taraf Maikada’ and ‘Ye Shohrat Bhi Le Lo’. Each performance drew enthusiastic applause, creating an atmosphere filled with music, emotion and nostalgia.
Several prominent personalities from Kanpur’s industrial, business, education, social and cultural circles attended the programme. Gulshan Dhoopar, Dr. A.S. Prasad, Ishwar Singh Verma, Yogesh Dubey, Ajit Thakur, Adesh Tandon and Dr. Jai Prakash, along with Chamber members and other distinguished citizens, added further grace to the memorable evening.
