In a powerful demonstration of administrative efficiency and labor justice, a major wage dispute involving 423 contract workers at the Kanpur Ordnance Factory (under Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited) has been successfully resolved. The timely intervention by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Kanpur, brought much-needed financial relief to the struggling workers.
Key Highlights of the Resolution:
Rs 50 Lakh Disbursed: Following rigorous conciliation efforts, the contractor, M/s Immense Manpower Private Limited, cleared the pending wages for June and July 2026. On August 13, 2026, a total of approximately Rs 50,00,000 (Fifty Lakh Rupees) was successfully paid out to the 423 workers.
Systemic Bottlenecks Removed: The Labour Commissioner’s strict intervention also compelled the principal employer to release the contractor’s long-pending bill from May 2026. This ensured that the financial logjam was completely cleared, paving the way for smooth payments.
Major Strike Averted: Driven to the edge by delayed payments, the workers had planned a massive strike. However, this prompt resolution successfully averted the protests, ensuring uninterrupted industrial operations and restoring harmony in the establishment.
A Commitment to Worker Welfare: During the conciliation proceedings, the management was strongly reminded of its statutory duties regarding fair service conditions and strict compliance with labor laws. In response, the management pledged unwavering commitment to the workforce’s welfare. This swift action stands as a shining example of the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s dedication to protecting workers’ rights and fostering a fair, conflict-free industrial environment.
