As the nation immersed itself in the vibrant and proud celebrations of Independence Day, the Merchants Chamber of Uttar Pradesh marked the occasion with deep patriotism and a highly visionary resolve. At 8:45 AM, the flag-hoisting ceremony was proudly led by the Chamber’s former President, Dr. I.M. Rohatgi. The atmosphere resonated with immense pride as members stood united to sing the National Anthem and ‘Vande Mataram’, paying heartfelt tributes to the brave freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation’s sovereignty.

In an emotionally charged address, Dr. Rohatgi expressed, “The surge of pride, joy, and patriotism I feel while hoisting our beautiful tricolor is beyond words.” Beyond the celebrations, he urged the Chamber members to take a solemn pledge: to dedicate their utmost efforts toward propelling India to become the world’s third-largest economy.

The Second War of Independence: The Fight for Employment The most striking and powerful takeaway from the event was Dr. Rohatgi’s stark observation regarding Kanpur’s shifting socio-economic landscape. He passionately declared that while we celebrate our freedom, our next major battle must be waged against unemployment.

“Kanpur, once the booming hub of sprawling industries, textile mills, and massive employment, is tragically and slowly turning into a city of the elderly,” he noted with deep concern. “Our brightest youth are being forced to migrate to other states in search of basic jobs. We must change this heartbreaking narrative immediately.”

A Blueprint for Industrial Revival To combat this massive brain drain, he proposed a solid, actionable blueprint. He demanded that the vast, unused lands of Kanpur’s closed mills be urgently repurposed to build a new ecosystem of modern industries, innovative startups, and advanced skill development centers. This, he emphasized, is the only viable path to generate massive local employment and retain the city’s youthful energy.

The inspiring ceremony concluded with a collective vow to build a self-reliant, progressive, and inclusive India. Prominent Council members, including Anil Kumar Agarwal, Vijay Pandey, Sushil Sharma, Tikam Chand Sethia, Vimal Jhajharia, Swatantra Singh, Amit Kumar, Sudhir Singh, Shesh Narayan Trivedi, and Atul Mehrotra, graced the event with their presence.
