New Delhi, May 6, 2026: The ECINET platform developed by the Election Commission of India played a pivotal role in ensuring seamless conduct of the General Elections to Legislative Assemblies and Bye-elections 2026. The advanced IT system significantly enhanced real-time monitoring, enabled faster reporting, and improved overall transparency in the electoral process.

Launched officially in January 2026, ECINET has rapidly gained traction, crossing over 100 million downloads. Its beta version had already been tested successfully during the Bihar elections in November 2025, laying the foundation for its nationwide deployment.

The platform witnessed massive engagement during the polling phases held on April 9, 23, and 29, recording over 983 million hits. On the counting day, May 4, 2026, ECINET handled an average of 30 million hits per minute, reflecting its robustness and scalability under high demand.

Cybersecurity remained a key highlight of ECINET’s performance. The platform successfully countered over 6.8 million malicious cyber attempts originating both domestically and internationally. These attacks primarily targeted critical election systems, including the results portal, but were effectively neutralized without disruption.

In a major step toward strengthening security at counting centers, a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system was introduced for the first time. Through ECINET, over 320,000 QR codes were generated, ensuring that only authorized personnel could access counting venues. This innovation helped prevent unauthorized entry and enhanced overall security.

Experts believe that ECINET marks a significant leap in leveraging digital technology for electoral governance. By integrating efficiency, transparency, and cybersecurity, the

platform sets a new benchmark for future elections in India, reinforcing the strength of the country’s democratic framework.
