Massive Boost to Cattle Welfare: Govt Invests Heavily in Shelter, Sustainability & Rural Jobs

At a major event in Lucknow, Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Dharampal Singh virtually inaugurated 30 newly constructed large-scale cow protection centres across 15 districts, marking a significant step towards strengthening cattle welfare in the state.
Each centre has the capacity to accommodate around 400 cattle, ensuring proper shelter, nutrition, clean water, and veterinary care for stray and abandoned animals. The initiative spans districts including Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, and Basti, among others.
The minister emphasized that no compromise should be made on construction quality and urged local authorities to actively participate in the effective operation of these centres. The state government has already approved 630 such centres, out of which 518 have been completed, reflecting a massive investment worth thousands of crores.
Equipped with modern facilities like fodder storage, green feed production, clean drinking water, and veterinary services, these shelters aim not only to protect cattle but also to promote environmental sustainability. Additionally, innovative initiatives such as vermicompost production, cow-dung-based products, and compressed biogas (CBG) units are being introduced to make the centres self-reliant.
The programme also encourages participation from NGOs, self-help groups, and corporate entities, creating new employment opportunities at the grassroots level.
